ABSTRACT

Several ways of dealing with faunal remains obtained from archaeological sites have been presented in recent years. I will not try to review them here, but will simply acknowledge certain of the more important published syntheses (Chaplin 1971, Grayson 1979, 1984, Binford 1981, Lyman 1982, Klein & Cruz-Uribe 1984). Instead, I will emphasize those developments that I have found most useful for my purposes.
