ABSTRACT
In our concluding chapter, we take a look at emerging trends and future directions in L2 writing research. We begin with a review of some technologies, approaches, and techniques that are still not well represented in L2 writing research but which we feel have potential for greater use. We have included sections on both quantitative cognitively oriented research and qualitative socially oriented research. This is followed by a discussion of using research syntheses in L2 writing research (both quantitative and qualitative). Finally, we conclude with a summary of what we see as overall issues related to study quality that we believe need to be addressed to move the field of L2 writing research forward.
