ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to outline some examples of good practice in prejudices and attitude and some ideas for strategies to combat difficult situations and conversations. People hope that perceptive and reflective lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans community (LGBT) diversity work will be one of unknown skills. What can be discussed is the fact that there is a link between gender and LGBT diversity, as even a slight change in the traditional identity of the early years workforce can raise issues that are connected to LGBT diversity as well as gender. Chapter suggests that delivering the staff training would require a confident attitude and knowledge of LGBT issues. Staff might reveal information about their own sexuality or that of a family member or friend. It is also the responsibility for the lead person in the setting to make sure that the setting is a safe place for children and staff.
