ABSTRACT

Introduction Having introduced the relationship between class and space in a general way, we turn in this chapter to an examination o f the links between inter-class conflict and the geography o f production and circulation. In undertaking this task, we generally assume that each class pursues only its collective interests in struggling with other classes. As a consequence, counterfinality does not arise because there is no conflict between the individual and the collective. This does not im ply that we consider the issue o f collective versus individual interests unim portant; rather, we delay discussion o f it until the next chapter. This said, inter-class conflict can overlap w ith intra-class conflict, and in those circumstances we have not tried to separate them here.
