ABSTRACT

W HAT was written in the last two chapters regarding trade contacts between the Wessex coast and other areas, by land and sea, applies also to the Cranborne Chase region, from which rivers flow south­ wards to the Wessex coast. The finding by Prof. and Mrs. Piggott o f a necklace o f perforated marine shells around the neck o f a primary Early Bronze Age interment in a barrow on Rockbourne Down1 pro­ vides yet another illustration o f the contact between the coast and the hinterland during the Bronze Age.
