ABSTRACT

THE north-east Yorkshire moors consist mainly o f limestone ridges or Riggs with their intervening dales, situated north o f the Vale of Pickering and west o f Scarborough and Whitby. As walking country they possess a great attraction, because except where clearances have been made for turf-cutting, they are almost entirely covered with ling, and the barrenness o f the soil has successfully prevented the encroach ment of the plough.
