ABSTRACT

T H E more important discoveries having been described in earlier chapters, it now becomes necessary to deal with the minor sites whose significance for the Roman period lies in the contribution that they make to an understand ing of the kind of place that London was, as well as to its history as a human settlement. Here as in other parts of the subject the historical aspects cannot be treated fully for the reason that has already been given. The considerable quantity of datable material, and of pottery in particular, has yet to be studied in detail. In this chapter therefore a brief description of the more important sites is attempted, with a repetition of the warning that any con clusions as to dates are of a tentative nature and may well undergo modifica tion in a future time.
