ABSTRACT
The lntroductt'on of Iron to West Africa West Africa had no Bronze Age and practically no Copper Age. Gold, easy to recover native from placers, was probably known in pre-Roman times. Tin, also easy to recover from placers and easy to reduce to metal, had been smelted on the Jos Plateau at least as early as the first century A.D.
