ABSTRACT

Photoshop layers allow you to edit a photograph by building up the image in multiple layered sections, such as in the Figure 1.80 example below. A layer can be an image element, such as a duplicated background layer, a copied selection that’s been made into a layer, or content that has been copied from another image. Or, you can have text or vector shape layers. You can also add adjustment layers, which are like image adjustment instructions applied in a layered form. Layers can be organized into layer group folders, which will make the layer organization easier to manage, and you can also apply a mask to the layer content using either a pixel or vector layer mask. You will find there are plenty of examples throughout this book in which I show you how to work with layers and layer masks.
