ABSTRACT

On June 27, 2011, the Supreme Court of the United States effectively closed the door on attempts to regulate the sale of violent video games in the US in its ruling on the Brown v. Entertainment Merchants Association case by upholding lower courts' decisions to strike down a California law forbidding the sale of violent video games to minors The allocation of so much time with media groups for a task force focused on gun violence is indicative of the manner in which exaggerated claims about effects of video games and other media on violent crime can distract public attention and resources from the real causes of violent crime. A series of meta-analyses was conducted in attempts to distill the range of findings from so much research into an interpretable conclusion on the effects of aggression, producing varied results and interpretations.
