ABSTRACT

We continually encourage parents living out of town to visit their infants, and if possible to stay nearby. Because finding accommodation and meals can be overwhelming for the parents at this time, we provide them with a list of inexpensive housing and restaurants located near the hospital. These houses have sleeping and eating facilities, and provide parents with a comfortable home-like atmosphere at a nominal charge. Natural support systems emerge from among the parents staying at these homes. Siblings are also encouraged to visit the infant and are given explanations at that time about their new brother or sister which are commensurate with their emotional and cognitive development.
