ABSTRACT
Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) comprise a group of parasitic and bacterial infections that affect more than 1.4 billion people, vulnerable populations living in extreme poverty (less than US$1.25 per day) mostly in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Treatment and prevention tools exist, yet these disabling diseases flourish where populations have inadequate nutrition, limited access to medical care, poor personal hygiene, and low literacy levels.
