ABSTRACT

The use of self-help forms in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) is common and serves several useful purposes in the therapeutic process. The Problems and Goals rating scales were devised by WDryden. It helps clients to specify succinctly what their problems are, and what their goals are with respect to each problem. While helping clients to formulate their goals, encourage them to focus on those that are achievable, realistic and measurable. The written self-help form was originally devised by Jane Walker an ex-student and WDryden, an ex-student, and modified by Albert Ellis and then modified again by Dan David and me. It is the self-help form most commonly used at the Albert Ellis Institute in New York. This chapter also shows the task assignment form devised by Daniel Constantinou, an ex-student and erstwhile colleague, and WDryden. This form encourages clients to make a written note of the homework assignment they have agreed to carry out between therapy sessions.
