ABSTRACT

This chapter provides valuable advice for the performing artist such as an actor, dancer, lighting guru, costumer, or stagehand, on investing, saving, and building a diversified and stable financial portfolio. It also provides unique strategies for integrating financial awareness and planning into the life as an artist, and how that can help to provide a better sense of financial security. As performers, taking risks is an essential part of what they do. Risk is the uncertainty surrounding how an investment will ultimately do. It is also the difference between how the investment actually performs and how the performer thought it would be. Knowing and understanding this aspect of investing and their tolerance level for it is vital to helping them understand just how much they want to wrestle with it. The chapter focuses on the level of risk associated with different types of investment choices, how that affects their potential returns, and ways that one can potentially mitigate.
