ABSTRACT

Parc de Bercy was the third major park completed in the 1990s on former industrial land in central Paris. The other two – Parc de la Villette (Chapter 15), built by the French national government, and Parc André-Citroën (Chapter 8), like Parc de Bercy, built by the City of Paris – were the first major parks to be built in central Paris since the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont (Chapter 10) in the 1860s. The designs for all three new parks resulted from open international competitions.
