ABSTRACT

Although these words were written in a context far removed from entrepreneurship, they echo important themes included in a widely accepted definition of the field (Shane & Venkataraman, 2000). These scholars define entrepreneurship as

This definition encompasses virtually every central aspect of entrepreneurship as a domain of management science. From the perspective of this chapter, however, its most salient feature is its clear suggestion that entrepreneurship should be viewed as a continuous, evolving process rather than a single event or a series of unrelated events. In other words, consistent with Paz’s words, the definition offered by Shane and Venkataraman (2000) suggests that in order to fully understand the nature of entrepreneurship, we must focus not solely on conditions existing at specific points in time (fixity), but also on change-how this process unfolds and develops over time.
