ABSTRACT

Motivation energizes, directs, and sustains action. It is based on the individual’s needs, values, desires, goals, and intentions, as well as incentives and rewards that affect those internal mechanisms (Steers & Porter, 1991). Dr. Thomas Chialastri, founder of American Orthopedic Devices, LLC, invented a surgical device to reduce back pain. His dream of a significant and financially successful company, passion for surgical tools, fierce energy, and confidence drove him through multiple challenges to his goal to create a premier orthopedic devices company. A person may have sufficient technical skill and money to start a business, but without motivation nothing happens.
