ABSTRACT

In contrast with Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) found at the post-secondary level, Advance Learning Interactive Systems Online (ALISON)'s focus is on workplace knowledge and skills development. ALISON aims to offer its learners a progressive learning path. The potential of free online learning certification to change society was made all the more clear to us at ALISON following a worldwide survey of our graduates and learners in February 2014 to which nearly 40,000 people replied. As free self-publishing platforms provide the ability for teachers and experts of all kinds to share what they know, it is clear that almost all fact-based education will be freely accessible online. The online platform, which offers free courses in more than 600 subjects, breaks down many of the barriers to traditional education. Mike Feerick was presented with a Diploma Award from UNESCO for making access to education and skills training more accessible to all.
