ABSTRACT
Underlying the recommendations offered in this chapter is a vision of the United States playing a powerful leadership role in responding to the new challenges posed by global environmental change and natural resource scarcities. That vision is built on America’s economic dynamism, our culture of technological innovation, and several decades of successes in addressing our own domestic environmental problems. Despite the potential severity of the environmental challenges and resulting social disruptions highlighted in the preceding chapters, the United States has unmatched capacities and opportunities to address these challenges domestically and at the global level.
