ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author looks at the priorities associated with the commencing of any creative project, including web and mobile video games. It looks at the initial stages of reference gathering, assembling a vision board, and the creation of exploration sketches that will be the first step in the completion of one's personalized "isometric game board." The first step of a project of any type (game, film, etc.) or scale (game level, film scene, etc.) is reviewing the associated documentation. This documentation can take several forms depending on the particular medium. The project's narrative, gameplay, setting, and overall visual aesthetic are entirely up to the artist/reader, as the project's parameters have been designed in a way to accommodate all manner of themes ranging from a medieval combat setting.
