ABSTRACT

This chapter takes a high-level overview of a typical 2D game development pipeline as well examine what makes for an effective product pitch. Prior to pitching any concept or idea, via a prepared presentation or an in-person pitch, there are a few things to keep in mind. When pitching a game concept, it is crucial to have a simple written presentation, or elevator pitch, that sums up the project quickly and clearly. When formulating a game pitch, it's often a good idea to include multiple style explorations. In pitches for new games, providing an "aspirational image" or "visual target" that represents what we hope to capture with the project is a must. Stakeholders are busy folks and regularly listen to project pitches. Avoid falling into the trap of trying to explain every element of gameplay or the backstory of all our characters and their children. Try and limit a face-to-face pitch to between 5 and 15 minutes.
