ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book introduces reflection and its history to open debate and discussion on developing reflective practice and reviews the challenge of values and ethics for professionals and the need to develop a reflective approach to ethical decision making in practice. It explores the nature of organisational systems, with examples from social work's adult and child care practice, to reflect upon current workplace culture and values. The book also reviews the current state of play of globalised health and social care and discusses the challenge of supervision as a process and positive force for social justice, or as a subtle way of controlling individuals. It provides an insight into tried and tested methods for reflection through personal development planning in an actually existing project and describes the issues of conditionality in social policy teaching.
