ABSTRACT

In this chapter, some of the pervasive assumptions often articulated about the relationship in academia are challenged by academics themselves, whilst others are strengthened. Although it may be true that more academic work is looking at the local implementation of sport for development projects on the ground. It is the day-to-day relationships, often brushed over or not probed in reports or evaluations that play a critical role in the success or failure of a sport for development initiative. This response framed around delving deeper into some of these assumptions, in the hope that all of us involved in sport for development will introduce more reflective practice into our work. The chapter has a strong theme of self reflection throughout from all the contributors, and in doing so the reader sees the power bias in the international partnership transpire in a different way.
