ABSTRACT

Evidence from the preceding chapters indicates that an important evaluative domain for verbal representation derives from its categorical and hierarchical structuring. In the idle-thoughts study the negative aspect of these evaluations was evident. with criticisms being directed towards the misfits. the entities which were atypical within the conventional order. In the portraits study it emerged that self-evaluations may use the same prinCiple. with verbalizers evaluating themselves within the context of what is now an institutional hierarchy. High self-esteem arises from two things: the security of knowing one's role; and the status of having a higher one.
