ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 is the first chapter of the book that presents ‘possibilities’ for ‘making a difference’ in examination and senior secondary physical education. The focus on this chapter is on curriculum possibilities. Attention is drawn to internal and external factors that are identified as framing enactment and seemingly precluding expression of progressive readings of the official text. We bring to the fore principles that we presented as a preface to Chapters 6, 7 & 8 as a foundation for re-visioning curriculum policy and practice. We present several scenarios to illustrate how Arnoldian dimensions of movement (education ‘in, through and about’ movement) can be seen as challenging contemporary curriculum policy and practices internationally. We consider how the design, interpretation and enactment of curriculum possibilities can occur within a highly contested policy space and amidst institutional constraints and opportunities.
