ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the 'bare basics' of networked e-business technology: internet and web technology. Advanced infrastructure technology provides a broad, general-purpose software platform for the implementation of networked e-business systems. It discusses four classes of well-known infrastructural technology: ebXML, RosettaNet, web services and multi-agent systems. It also discusses the following classes of aspect-oriented technology for networked e-business: data management technology, process management technology, human communication technology, security technology, performance technology, mobility technology. Web service technology plays an important role in this convergence. Although many e-business scenarios rely on high levels of automation, human communication may be structurally required or as a means to handle exceptional situations. Security is a major issue in networked e-business for more than one reason. Cryptography technology is used to provide certain security aspects in transmitting electronic information between collaborating business parties. Proper performance of networked e-business systems is of utmost importance to keep an e-business organization running.
