ABSTRACT

Not far from the minster town of South well, Nottinghamshire, Hockerton housing cooperative is the UK's best-known early example of communal one planet living. looking east from the roof of the terrace. On the left is the earth-covered rear of the homes, which merges into the orchard. To the right is the lake. The chimney is for natural ventilation. At the top of the glazing can be seen the photovoltaic array. Electricity is provided by 7.65 kW peak arrays of PV panels on the roof and new ones on the office to help power that and charge an electric shared car, and by two nearby wind turbines; a 6 kW Proven wind turbine installed early 2002 year and a 5 kW Iskra wind turbine installed in 2005 as part of the construction of a community building.
