ABSTRACT

Lloyd George, fortified himself with a band of brothers, who worked with him so harmoniously as to amount to a 'Dictatorship in Commission'. A social evening would convert itself unexpectedly into a conference of the most serious kind, and conversely a serious discussion would develop on unconventional lines. Great organizer and administrator though he was, he was not enamoured with official routine. This made him rather a difficult man to serve in an official capacity. One saving point, however, from the point of view of his staff was that Lloyd George rarely held official meetings late at night, which wears most people out quicker than anything else. During the whole period of the War Cabinet, including the Imperial War Cabinet and Supreme War Council and other directing bodies, and they rarely if ever lasted until midnight.
