ABSTRACT

The economic circulatory system of mass media marketplace is the worldwide, annual circuit of film and television markets. The vast majority of business-to-business, country-to-country sales of entertainment properties is transacted at these international, entertainment industry trade shows. While every aspect of business constantly transmutes, the revolutionary advances in technology over the past couple of decades have significantly reduced the barriers to entry. They have also opened up diverse new thoroughfares towards financing, distribution and promotions, breaking wide open the frontier of possibilities for innovative risk takers. Meeting and staying connected face-to-face are invaluable — especially with prospective partners from other side of the world, from other cultures, speaking different native languages and navigating business through very different cultural prisms. It is hard to beat the ways markets facilitate these interactions. This annual injection of inspiration, education, fresh information, and camaraderie — not to mention the catalyzing force of arbitrary and cyclical deadlines for deliverables and milestones — cannot be underestimated.
