ABSTRACT

Entertainment industry professionals go to markets for all sorts of reasons: to network, stay up-to-date on market trends, keep tabs on their business partners, reconnects with old friends and, of course, to party. Film distributors and companies distribute films. They license material for the period of time negotiated in the distribution contract, then market and sell those films directly to the public or to other distributors or exhibitors in various geographic territories. "Exhibitors" in the world of theatrical film distribution typically refer to theaters and cinemas. Film sales agents negotiate certain rights from filmmakers and then pitch these sets of distribution rights to prospective domestic and international distributors — sometimes even directly to exhibitors. They earn a commission in exchange for each sale they broker. Aggregators specialize in acquiring digital rights to sell to Internet platforms and the digital space, often grouping packages of genre films into blocks that can be marketed together.
