ABSTRACT

Deservedly the "Grande Dame" of film markets, Le Marché du Film (The Cannes Film Market) is nearing her sixtieth birthday. By far the most famous, most glamorous, most star-studded market of all, Le Marché du Film is also the most paparazzi- and tourist-crowded. Producers attending their first Marché should sign up for the Producers Workshop. The Producers Workshop focuses on training and peer-to-peer networking. Film financing is one of the greatest hurdles for independent filmmakers — but it is a challenge for equity investors as well. With this in mind, in 2015, the Marché du Film launched the Cannes Investors Club for a select group of high net worth individuals new to film. Originally launched in 2000, the Village International offers film commissions, national institutions and funding entities promotional exposure for their shooting locations and services. As the boundaries of cinema become increasingly diffuse, NEXT Pavilion offers an observatory and lab for alternative economic and storytelling models.
