The comparative success of the Nordic countries in a Europe that falls into a financial, economic and political crisis drew international attention to the Nordic welfare model, and within the region Nordic cooperation resurfaced in political discussions, to some degree translating also into practical political initiatives. Nordic institutional cooperation can play an important role as a gateway for joint Nordic adaptation to the inputs from the process of Europeanization for generating and coordinating joint Nordic inputs into the EU's multilevel governance and policy structure.
