ABSTRACT

This chapter encapsulates Sabeera's experiences of living and working in a remote Sudanese village. These experiences demonstrate a fluidity of norms, opportunities and values within an outwardly appearing traditional community. She left that village as a child, she left this school as a pupil, now Sabeera is here as an adult and a wife - as a lawyer actually - and a teacher. After all these things Sabeera think being a teacher is a privilege. Education is so important because our prophet Mohammed said people must teach themselves and teach their children. As a teacher she feel that the policies are on people side to help them. As an example, the policies ask them to continue their education and get a bachelor's degree and postgraduate studies for all teachers. This is clearly a policy that benefits women because as mothers, well, women can be mothers and still get these qualifications and become better teachers and earn more money.
