ABSTRACT

This chapter describes lesson where the only resources used are the blackboard and the pupil's exercise books, but Habibah use these resources in very different ways and achieve very different outcomes for the pupils. Pupils enter class and sit at their desks or on the floor. Habibah says 'this is an English lesson and today we are going to learn about the parts of the face and most importantly how to spell the words'. 'But first she want pupils to sing a song. She asks pupils whether they know Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes?' The children shout 'yes'. The children stand up and sing the song While the children are singing Habibah draws a face on the board. Habibah writes a list of 'eye, nose, mouth, ear, face' next to the face. She asks the children to draw a face in their books and label each part. The bell rings and Zeinab collects the pupil's exercise books.
