ABSTRACT
Shingazidja is spoken by about half a million speakers on the island of Ngazidja (or Grande Comore) and in France. This chapter provides an analysis of all major aspects of the grammar, including a summary of the extensive literature on the complex tone system of the language. Special attention is devoted to the impact of Arabic and French loanwords on its phonological system, and to nominal and verbal derivation.
