ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the use of drama as an interactive approach to Global Citizenship Education (GCE). The impact of the Space traders drama has come about as a result of the use of dramatic irony. The embodied learning in drama also takes participants through live-through experiences that are different from daily social living. Oxfam, a critical approach to Global Citizenship Education (GCE) is specifically adopted, and this approach to GCE bears a strong social justice focus. People accept their relationship with the socio-economic system as fair and natural, maintaining the status quo against any force of social change. Marx's theories are criticized for basing on a narrow assumption that ideology is a static set of values determined by class structures rather than people's individual psychology. The drama praxis involves a kind of aesthetic engagement in which animation, connection and heightened awareness work together to create aesthetic experiences for significant learning to occur.
