ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the digital liberties movement and the Indian movement opposing GM crops in the context of their contributions to the global justice movement's struggle for globalisation. It argues both the digital liberties movement and the Indian opposition to GM crops have a complex relationship to the global web of activism. The chapter argues that despite the limitations on each movement's connection with the global justice movement, both digital liberties activists and the Indian opposition to GM crops are making vital contributions to the global justice movement. Mapping complex relationship to the broader global justice movement is difficult, in large part because of the inherently fluid and informal nature of social movements. In the case of the global justice movement, attempts to map the movement are further complicated by the range of issues and networks, and the geographical spread of the actors, that constitute the movement.
