ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the most exciting things has been found out about various derivations that arise as a result of Vivian Gussin Paley's approach. The chapter have come directly through programmes that MakeBelieve Arts has been involved in, but others come from people inspired by Paley who have found ways to adapt Storytelling and Story Acting and make it relevant to the environment they work in. In 2004 the author worked with Isla Hill in a primary school in Lewisham, where we were trial-ling the benefits of Helicopter Stories with two classes of children, one group of Year 3s and one group of Year 5s. Mark and John went to the park and met up with Andrew and Seth. Many of the children struggled with literacy, but Isla was amazed at how readily they engaged in it when they were scribing the story of their partners.
