ABSTRACT

Sometimes we hear metaphors in stories that make us ask the teacher about a child. 'Daddy is a monster' could be a story about a dad who plays monster games with his children or about a dad who is cruel. Knowing the children in a class may provide an idea about such metaphors; but it is important not to look for things that are not there. Story is the place where children express their fears. Occasional mention of poo or wee sometimes comes up in children's stories. These are rare, but when they happen, the author tends to write them down, and during the acting out just skims over it. All things from children's lives will come up from time to time if this approach is followed regularly. Storytelling and Story Acting gives children a voice for their thoughts, concerns, and questions, but it also offers practitioners, a way to discover the deliberations of a child.
