ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts covered in the subsequent chapters of this book. This book is to provide students in training as well as practitioners of real consultations that have occurred in culturally diverse settings. lt takes a broader view of how culture impacts consultation beyond the exploration of racial factors in consultant and consultee interactions. Consultation has been a desirable role for school psychologists for well over 40 years. the book assists students in understanding how to apply the multicultural consultation framework, exemplify the challenges as well as lessons learned in terms of outcomes, and illustrate the complex nature of weaving through the multicultural maze to understand how issues of diversity may very well impact the implementation of interventions as well as the outcomes. The multicultural school consultation (MSC) framework is used in concert with the ecological model of consultation. The ecological model examines the broad environmental contexts that influence both the academics and behaviors of a student.
