ABSTRACT
Chapter 7 discusses to what extent the geography of a country influences Olympic success. I highlight through specific examples that this factor is more influential for Winter Games, and is only important for some sports in the Summer Games. I discuss specific geographic characteristics, such as cold climate or access to water, that are beneficial for certain sports, while other factors do not necessarily equate to success in related sports. I also highlight that some geographic advantages can be overcome by infrastructure development.
