ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how web-based treatments can increase the reach of evidence-based treatments to typically underserved populations. Within the broader field of psychoeducational interventions, web-based interventions have shown great promise in improving individual functioning. A recent meta-analysis of web-based interventions targeting depressive symptoms found that those based in cognitive-behavioral theory are efficacious. Existing educational web-based Relationship and Marriage Education (RME) programs usually provide information and advice on common topics such as intimacy, communication, and parenting through articles and videos. For example, TwoOfUs.org is a relationship advice website run by the National Health Marriage Resource Center. This site provides videos by psychologists and other experts giving advice on many topics as well as links to empirical research articles on relationship constructs. One notable web-based enrichment program is ePrevention and Relationship Education Program (ePREP). The computer program ePREP provides skills to recognize and respond to risk factors such as conflict patterns, communication problems, and commitment issues.
