ABSTRACT

The FOCCUS (Facilitating Open Couple Communication, Understanding, & Study) was designed to assist couples preparing for marriage. Therefore, engaged couples typically take FOCCUS as part of their marriage preparation. REFOCCUS was developed specifically for married couples that want to identify possible strengths and areas of growth within their relationship. FOCCUS was designed to provide couples individualized feedback on their relationship so they can learn more about it, including the expectations that they each have for one another. The feedback is intended to facilitate couple discussion, which should help the couple deepen their understanding of the relationship. REFOCCUS was developed for couples that are already married and want to work on enriching their relationship. In addition, many couples can benefit from psychoeducational programs that offer knowledge and skills for building a successful marriage. Therefore, the facilitator may also consider this as a possible referral for some couples.
