ABSTRACT

One of the major goals of the PIDOP project was the formulation of a set of evidence-based recommendations concerning the actions which may be taken by political and social actors to enhance levels of participation among youth, women, minorities and migrants. In order to achieve this goal, the PIDOP project focused directly on policy issues from the outset, auditing existing policies on participation in all of the participating countries and at the EU level (for a selection of some of the work undertaken, see Chapters 22 to 25 in the present volume). In addition, the project built up an extensive network of contacts with policy actors and activists from its inception. These included representatives of local community and civil society organisations, governance actors at regional, national and EU levels, and policy development organisations at regional, national and EU levels.
