ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses recommended equipment needed to work in the game industry as an audio content provider. It examines their audio tools, to find the trends, and discovers what everyone else is using to do today's great game audio. Pro Tools is a favorite for some, but there is also an equal number who dislike it with equal fervor. Dolby Laboratories has been very active in gaming over the years, so much in fact they established a game development relations branch to support game developers and audio content providers. A skill set which goes hand in hand with the musical and engineering skills is solid 'technical' abilities. A skill without practice becomes a hindrance. All games are not simply techno or other upbeat rhythmic compositions only there as background clutter. They serve a specific purpose and are skillfully mastered to absorb the player fully into the experience.
