ABSTRACT

The department of the agency on which the responsibility of selection falls bears different names in different agencies. It is variously called a Space-buying Department, a Contract Department, a Media Department, and a Department of Markets and Media. The Space-buying Department should expect a memorandum from the account representative which gives a description of the product to be advertised; of the client's distribution policy and prices, and which indicates the approximate amount to be spent in advertising media. The necessary facts come from many sources, such as reports issued by the Audit Bureau of Circulations, advertisements in publications read by agencies and advertisers, and data furnished by advertising media. The use of certain forms is highly necessary to insure proper performance of the work of forwarding section. Work on such an account starts in the Space-buying Department after that department has been consulted by the account representative assigned to the account by the service committee.
