The ED problem is to optimize the output of generating unit in the system under meeting the operating constraints, and to bring the total system power consumption to a minimum, that is to minimize the cost of power generation, the objective function is:

where F = the total generation costs; Ng = the total system generator; Pi represents the i-th generator active power; Fi(Pi) = the amount of consumption characteristics of the i-th generator, generally available approximated by a quadratic function:
