ABSTRACT

In 1870, England had the most highly developed manufacturing industry in the world. Legislation was gradually introduced in England to mollify the worst effects of free competition and liberalism was transformed into social liberalism. There were also movements based on the idea that the liberation of the working class could only be brought about by its own activity. Capitalism had developed industry and thereby created the possibility of enormous wealth. karl marx was the first to devise a social philosophy designed to highlight the possibilities for socialism discernible in actual historical developments. Hegel thought he had shown that sovereignty found its realization in the monarch; but all he had really proved was that in certain states the monarch had achieved absolute power. One characteristic of feudal relations of production was the transfer of part of the fruits of the peasant's labour to the lord.
