Institutional Conflict and Power: Capital, Market and Other Constraints on Self-Management

THE DEVELOPMENT of self-management entails the extension of workers' control over the means of production, the production process, products and their future development, and, above all, the institutional context of production. This definition necessarily relates the concept of selfmanagement - and more generally of economic democracy - to the socio-political and institutional context. From such a holistic perspective, the larger context in which production takes place is of utmost importance.
