ABSTRACT

Radicalization and politicization of the social change-agents have been expedited by various forces, among them the seemingly incurable ailments of the welfare state at large, and make no bones about it the disillusionment of its workers with their own effectiveness. The practitioners in this field of work were recently classified according to their 'styles and aims' as follows: These 'types' represent various degrees of politicization; this chapter relates to them in the measure they are politicized. The converging processes, the politicization of the personal and the personalization of the political, especially in relation to the ideological divisions in the world today. The movement of 'community work' is a commendable attempt at improving the efficiency of our democratic system of government, on both local and national levels. The American social work and community work literature is a wash with ideas to amend the democratic system of government from the grass roots up.
